Dr. Chandra Bhanu Satpathy Delivers Distinguished Lecture at University of Washington, Seattle

City of Seattle proclaimed August 14, 2026 as "Shri Guru Bhagwat Day"
On the August 14, 2026, the University of Washington welcomed Dr. Chandra Bhanu Satpathy ji for a distinguished lecture on "The Relevance of Ancient Indian Wisdom and the Guru Tradition in the Modern World," held at the Petersen Room, University of Washington Libraries.
Zhijia Shen, Director of Library Global Engagement, welcomed Dr. Satpathy ji, Consul General of India Shri Prakash Gupta, and other distinguished guests to the event. Remarks followed from Donna Niell, Director of UW Global Marketing & Communications, and Prof. Chan Lu, Chair of the Department of Asian Languages & Literature.
Mr. Layman Lei also addressed the gathering, expressing gratitude to Dr. Satpathy ji for his literary work Shri Guru Bhagwat, the first volume of which Mr. Lei has translated into Mandarin.
Consul General Prakash Gupta highlighted Dr. Satpathy ji's broader contributions to society through literature and a global spiritual movement.
In recognition of the occasion, the City of Seattle proclaimed August 14, 2026 as "Shri Guru Bhagwat Day." The proclamation, issued by Mayor Katie B. Wilson, was presented by Julie Hsieh and Tony Au. The University of Washington also presented Dr. Satpathy ji with a Certificate of Appreciation for his contributions to literature, scholarship, and intercultural understanding.
In his address, Dr. Satpathy ji reflected on the teachings of ancient masters, Indian monks and mentors, and Shaolin monks, and spoke on the Prashnopanishad—the art of questioning—noting its relevance to Artificial Intelligence today. He urged teachers and professors to study the art of questioning and pass this tradition on to their students, adding that the inclusiveness taught by ancient Masters, followed by Saints like Swami Vivekananda, Shirdi Saibaba and finds United States as one of its finest examples as States accept all religions, caste & creed.
